Free Internet Project for Villages (KIP)
Nilüfer Municipality, which wants to contribute to the education life of children and young people, aims to provide unlimited and free internet access to the people of the region by providing internet infrastructure to 13 rural neighborhoods.
Nilüfer Municipality, which has a child and youth-oriented approach in its city management practices, took another step for children and young people and provided internet access to 13 rural neighborhoods. Within the scope of the project, which was implemented with the aim of preparing children and young people for the future and especially contributing to their educational lives, internet infrastructure was created in rural neighborhoods without fiber infrastructure and free internet was provided to both students and local people.
Nilüfer Municipality Information Technology Directorate, which established the first of the wireless internet stations in Konaklı District, then expanded this service to Karacaoba, Yaylacık, Büyükbalıklı, Güngören, Gökçe, Çaylı, Badırga, Fadıllı, Unçukuru, Dağyenice, Ayvaköy and Tahtalı neighbourhoods. Within the scope of the project, unlimited wireless internet access is provided in village squares and all residences within a radius of 150 meters, thanks to the wifi APs and antennas placed in areas close to the settlements in rural areas. After users choose the municipal network for internet access, they can benefit from free wireless internet service with identity verification.
“As you may remember, during the pandemic distance education process, we provided unlimited and free internet by creating computer classes in two neighborhoods for children in rural areas who did not have internet or computers. Here, students could both continue their distance education uninterrupted and conduct the research they needed. For the rural child, this opportunity is a door to the world. In today's conditions, the internet is a very important tool for children and young people to connect with the world. We cannot deprive our rural children of this opportunity. We are taking these steps for equal opportunities in education, to prepare our children and young people for the future, and especially to contribute to their educational lives. Providing free internet to students living in rural neighborhoods was one of our election promises. For this reason, we first established wireless internet stations in 13 neighborhoods. Our goal is to spread this application to 24 neighborhoods.”
